Abstract
Effective case presentation and discussion are crucial for patient care and medical education in emergency medicine (EM). However, the fast-paced and high-risk nature of the emergency department (ED) necessitates a focused and efficient approach to case evaluation. This paper presents a structured 10-step format for oral case presentation in EM (EM-OCP) to facilitate rapid and comprehensive patient assessment. The format emphasizes the importance of identifying high-stakes diagnoses and systematically considering common, deadly, and reversible causes of the patient’s complaints. By following this structured approach, emergency physicians can efficiently gather and synthesize relevant clinical information, leading to improved patient outcomes and enhanced medical learning in the ED setting. The EM-OCP format serves as a valuable tool for effective communication, critical thinking, and timely decision-making in the challenging environment of the ED.
