Abstract

The energy utilization efficiency of commercial photovoltaic (PV) pumping systems can be significantly improved by employing many MPPT methods available in the literature such as the constant voltage, short-Current Pulse, Open Voltage, Perturb and Observe, Incremental-Conductance and non-linear methods (Fuzzy Logic and Neural Networks). This paper presents a detailed experimental study of the two DSP implementation techniques: Constant Voltage and Perturb and Observe "P&O" used for standalone PV pumping systems. The influence of algorithm parameters on system behavior is investigated and the various advantages and disadvantages of each technique are identified for different weather conditions. Practical results obtained using dSpace DS1104 show excellent performance and optimal operating system is attained regardless of climate change.
