International Review of Law Publishes A Special Issue On Domestic Violence

10 May 2014

The International Review of Law has published a special issue on domestic violence with articles ranging from intra-family violence and acid violence to empirical research on unreported cases in Nigeria and domestic violence policy reform in the Republic of Macedonia. All articles are featured on QScience.com, Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation Journals' digital publishing portal for academic research.

The International Review of Law is a peer-reviewed international law journal that articulates contemporary legal discourse in all fields of law. All content in the journal is 'open access', which means articles are free to read and download from the web and authors retain full copyright of their works.

This special issue tackles an important topic that continues to demand the attention of the international community. Reported incidents of domestic violence usually involve abuse perpetrated by men against women and its occurrence cuts across all socio-economic groups, cultures, religions, ages, and geographic locales. Countries worldwide have enacted legislation and adopted public policies to prevent domestic violence, in order to protect those who are subjected to abuse and hold abusers accountable. Despite progress in these areas, challenges remain.

The articles focus on the various manifestations of domestic violence across the globe. It is hoped that the articles in this special issue will prompt continued dialogue on effective legal reform efforts to stop domestic violence.

Professor Mary Pat Treuthart, Guest Editor of the International Review of Law's special issue on domestic violence said: "The special issue on domestic violence features thought-provoking, original articles by legal scholars and commentators from across the globe. Despite domestic and international legal reform efforts to prevent violence and to protect those subjected to abuse, challenges remain. The articles that comprise this issue were specially selected with the goal of prompting further dialogue about effective ways to address family violence in its various forms."

Dr Christopher Leonard, Editorial Director of QScience, said: "The subject of domestic violence is, unfortunately, a major issue throughout the world and this examination of various cases in different countries gives legal scholars a global overview of how justice is served in each case. We are very proud of the editorial board and in particular the guest editor in tackling this difficult subject and shedding light on how legal frameworks support victims of domestic violence, as well as punishing the perpetrators."

Alongside these articles, QScience.com has also introduced an online commenting system, linked to  readers’ social media accounts, which allows for direct communication with the author and other readers.

This new service adds to the already existing features of article-level metrics, measuring downloads and citations, and the personalization and mobile features of the site, allowing browsing of content and access to search alerts with BlackBerry, iPhone and Android handsets.

QScience.com already hosts 15 scholarly journals covering diverse subject areas, such as information and library studies, sustainable energy, education, medicine and bioscience, Middle Eastern healthcare, law, design and Islamic studies.  Many other journals are scheduled to be added in 2014.
